Abstract

Software Configuration Management (SCM) is crucial for ensuring the integrity and reliability of software systems. This paper investigates various SCM practices and tools used in the industry for version control, change management, and release management. The research aims to provide insights into the current state of SCM, identify challenges, and highlight best practices. The study analyzes different SCM strategies, including centralized and distributed version control systems, and examines popular SCM tools such as Git, Subversion, and Mercurial. By understanding the importance of SCM in software development, organizations can enhance their development processes, improve collaboration, and ensure successful software releases.
